Starting to sell on the Net
posted January 2, 2008
I have been selling my paintings for over 30 years. I've used galleries, done outdoor art shows, been involved in juried shows, had studio hours and events at my studio. There are good and bad factors with each. I'm just starting marketing my work on the Internet and find it very interesting. The main thing I enjoy is the lack of paying large commissions. Beyond that there is the simple fact I get to communicate with the potential buyers in a way I never do with the traditional galleries. One other thing I enjoy is I'm more in charge of how my work will be seen and what will be said about it. I've had more than one issue with large galleries disagreeing with me about this. They weren't wrong for them or for thier clients but sometimes it just wasn't representational of who I was or what my work represented. I would like to hear the comments of both artists and buyers as to how they find the Internet as a place to buy and collect art.
